Shopping the Stash: M for Maybelline

Hi ladies. As I mentioned in my last post, I was going through a nail inspiration slump awhile back, so I turned to my trusty Shopping the Stash tag :) I chose to use Maybelline Dark plum and layered it with Alanna Renee Milky way.

Every time I wear Milky way, I am always blown away by the gorgeous iridescent glitters and shapes ♥

OPI Alcatraz...rocks

Hi ladies :) I'm sorry for disappearing off the blog for a bit. I had been really uninspired lately and the January challenge wasn't helping by putting on the pressure...needless to say, I've dropped the challenge. Maybe I'll resume it someday when inspiration strikes again.

Anyway, I've taken this time to let my peeling nails heal and wore them as nubbins. They're slowly growing out and in a much healthier state now. I may start painting them and posting pictures of them soon enough ;) As for now, I have a slight backlog of photos! Here is three coats of OPI Alcatraz....rocks, my favourite texture polish.

I experimented with adding a top coat and the polish is quite hungry! I think this was two coats of top coat and the finish was still not super smooth. I prefer the textured and matte look anyway ;)

Thank you for being patient with me! I hope to be back soon with some nail art again soon.

Skinfood VI408

Hey everyone! Skinfood VI408 is a Korean nail polish I purchased two years ago and I believe this is only the third time I've worn it. I don't know why, since it is such a beauty. This was two coats of the gorgeous purple shimmer.

January Nail Art Challenge: Pastel blue

(Oops, this was meant to be up yesterday, but I forgot to post it! Better late than never though :P)

Hi everyone :) Today's prompt is pastel blue and I have to admit, with such a broad theme, I was a little stumped to begin with. I finally decided to go with a skittle look and here is the result!

Pinky & index: Two coats of Australis Sky high layered with Australis Carnivale chaos. I added two coats of Flormar #20 to create a glitter sandwich look.
Ring & thumb: Three coats of Sinful Colors Cinderella.
Middle: Two coats of Sky high. I created a one stroke butterfly look with some acrylic paint.

I love how the rainbow glitter looks like a garden of flowers off in the distance which the butterfly is flying towards :)

January Nail Art Challenge: Pattern

Hello hello! For the 'pattern' theme, I already had in mind to go with a geometric pattern. I started with a base of Essie St Lucia lilac and then stamped the design from BM-414 over the purple base with Ulta3 Lily white.

To make the pattern look more interesting, I took a thin brush, Ulta3 Snazzle and Hello Kitty Golden girl to fill in some of the triangles.

I know this design is rather simple, but I like how the gold and silver added a nicer touch to the finished look :)

Can't find my Czechbook meets White Gold

Hello ladies. For some reason, I can't seem to get enough of OPI Can't find my Czechbook. I decided to pair it with OPI 18k white gold and silver top coat and loved the combination.

A quick and easy layering does the job - I was done and out the door in 20 minutes! ;)

Do you own this top coat? What layering combinations do you think I should play with?

January Nail Art Challenge: Sparkles

Hi ladies :) Today's prompt was 'sparkles' and it definitely made me think of glitter. I decided to go with a simple reverse glitter gradient since I wasn't feeling too inspired by the theme. I used Orly Green with envy and created the gradient with OPI Which is witch.

Leopard chrome nails

Hey ladies! Today's manicure is inspired by the super talented @kimiko7878, who was in turn inspired by @_nail_bliss_ on Instagram. I saw her photo of these leopard nails and decided to add my take on it.

leopard chrome

On my pinky & index fingers I have two coats of OPI Did you 'ear about Van Gogh. The leopard print was created using Hello Kitty Golden girl. On my ring finger, I took some gold foil pieces and added them over Ulta3 Black satin. On my middle finger, I have two coats of OPI Push & shove from the Gwen Stefani collection. I'm hoping I'll stop procrastinating and get a review up of Push & shove soon too!

Swatches and review: OPI Brazil collection

Hello everyone! Inspired by the beautiful  landscapes of Brazil and bright carnival colours, OPI will be bringing us a Brazil collection in February. Today, I have four of my picks to share with you :)

Next stop...the bikini zone is definitely one which caught my interest. It is a magnificent duochrome described by OPI to be "an amethyst-toned pewter that suits just about everyone". It is so gorgeous - I know I will be pulling this one to wear a lot! I applied two coats.

Don't Bossa Nova me around is a beautiful nude which I can't seem to get enough of recently! It has a pink tinge to it - I applied two coats below.

Live.Love.Carnival, what a bright and vibrant shade you are! I'm loving how eye catching this coral shade is and am itching to pull it out again for these hot summer days in Australia. Two coats.

AmazON...AmazOFF what can I say?! When I first saw the press release of the Brazil collection, I knew I would have to own this shade. Turns out it's not as green as I thought it'd be - it's actually more of a teal. You have to be careful with this one too, it's a real stainer. I only swatched it (without base coat) and I had green nails afterwards. This was two coats.

There are also four liquid sand shades in addition to 8 other shades in the collection. You will be able to find the Brazil collection in February at David Jones and selected salons, retailing for $19.95 each. Myer will also be stocking the collection later in the season.

Are you interested in any of the shades so far? What are your picks?

January Nail Art Challenge: Fresh

Hi ladies! This is actually a rather exciting post for me because for the first time in my blogging experience, I am going to take part in a nail art challenge! When I first saw this challenge posted up on Instagram by @californails, I knew I wanted to try it out because of the easy pace and simpler nail art prompts.

I'm a little late with the first prompt since I only saw it earlier today. I actually had a nail art idea immediately spring to mind involving fresh grass and flowers...too bad I didn't have the time to execute it :( Instead, I'm left with rather hurried and bird-like roses which only just sort of link with the 'fresh' theme.

fresh flowers

I used OPI My vampire is buff for the off white shade. I took OPI Can't find my CzechbookKeeping Suzi at bay and AmazON...AmazOFF to freehand the roses. I also layered a thicker coat of OPI Pirouette my whistle on my index and pinky nails.

fresh flowers

I'm hoping I'll have more time over the weekend to brainstorm better ideas for the future prompts. What do you think, will you be joining in on this nail art challenge? :)

Black, hot pink & glitter

Hi ladies :) Happy New Year! How did you spend your last moments of 2013? I spent today lazing around at home and didn't get up to much

I have a couple more nail looks from 2013, then I'll be almost up date with my photos. For some reason, I always tend to match hot pink with black, and these nails are no exception to the case. The pink is definitely much more neon in real life and was the main attention grabber of the five nails ;)

black, hot pink & glitter

Pinky & index: Two coats of Ulta3 Black satin.
Ring: Two coats of Color Club Magic attraction & OPI In true Stefani fashion.
Middle: Three coats of Frenz Nail Flus12.
Thumb: Two coats of Black satin layered with In true Stefani fashion.

black, hot pink & glitter

Frenz Nail is a brand which I am new to. I did a brief Google search and have found this to be a French nail polish brand. I don't think it's too easily accessible in Australia at the moment, but you can find several of Frenz Nail's collections available on Maconii Collection. At the moment holographic, flakey, neon and glitter collections are available, with prices ranging from $9.95 - $12.95 a bottle.

I have to admit I'm not the greatest neon lover, but when it is used as an accent in a manicure, I can't complain :P

Have you heard of this nail polish brand before? Which nail polishes are catching your attention?

Thanks for reading!
